Maple Grove to host TriStar111 Minnesota: a global partnership and new race format

TriStar111 makes Maple Grove its inagural USA destination in 2011

Dare to Dream events entered the triathlon scene in 2010 with the goal of providing an inviting race platform where athletes can thrive, have fun and be proud of their accomplishment in crossing the finish line. The demand for such an experience was evident during our inaugural season with nearly 500 athletes taking on the dare to TRI.

To continue our mission of providing a triathlon utopia for our athletes, Dare to Dream Events is pleased to announce its partnership with Monaco based Star Productions to introduce a new race format to supplement the existing Sprint and Olympic courses. Maple Grove, scheduled as the inaugural USA TriStar 111 event, will bring an international style of fun-focused triathlon racing to the United States featuring a 1km swim (0.6mi), 100km of cycling (62mi), and 10km of running (6.2mi). In a nationally recognized cycling destination, the bike-heavy event will be perfectly suited for true cycling enthusiasts.

The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specialized in organizing high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection. Minnesota (MN, USA) is the 11th destination offering a TriStar race after Berlin (GER), Lyon (FRA), Madrid (ESP), Mallorca (ESP), Monaco (MON), Nevis (SKN), Otepää (EST), Sardinia (ITA), Split (CRO), and Worms (GER). The TriStar Series has grown to 17 races in these 11 destinations in less than two years. TriStar has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (A/N: 111km and 222km), as well as a new Team Racing Concept (A/N: in Madrid). More info: www.tristar111.com.

Read the full press release here. Additional details will continue to be updated on our website, Facebook and through our e-newsletters.

In the meantime, both individual and relay registrations are now being accepted. Register today and make history on the inaugural national roster!

Macca against all in the first U.S. TriStar111 Minnesota

2010 Ironman World Champion Chris McCormack

TriStar111 Minnesota, held August 27 in Maple Grove, will feature Chris McCormack 'Macca' Ironman world champion, who will have to fight hard for the win in this race against a large group of professionals. Macca, and all pro roster athletes, will also compete to earn the pro cash purse of $10,000 (powered by URBAN Tri of Minneapolis), shared among the top ranked. This will be the first TriStar triathlon race in the United States, which will complement the "Maple Grove Triathlon: Dare to TRI" and bring the European style in triathlon organization and fun new formats to a large market.

Who dares to race with Macca? A number of professionals will face the reigning world champion Chris McCormack, thanks to a $10,000 pro cash purse distributed among the top ranked, powered by URBAN Tri. Macca will be a favored victor in the U.S. TriStar 'premiere' on August 27 in Maple Grove. Macca, who has already competed in two events this year including TriStar Nevis and Mallorca and now with his sights on the first TriStar111 Madrid on July 3, he will not have easy time with the large group of professionals who will swim 1 km, cycle 100km and run 10km to the finish line.

TriStar111 Minnesota takes place in a nationally recognized epicentre for cycling that continues to win awards and accolades for its progressive cycling community. Beginning in Weaver Lake, athletes will take to the water for the 1km swim. After a swift transition to the bike, participants will enjoy the 100km cycling course offering scenic views of the Maple Grove, Plymouth and Corocan’s rolling landscape. Rounding out the race is the 10km run around Weaver Lake making two loops before finishing in the heart of the park before crowds of spectators.

"TriStar offers an alternative to the local racing schedule here in Minnesota. If you look at how TriStar runs their events, their company’s philosophy aligns with why I opened my store. Races should be accessible to all clientele. TriStar distances are fast, they get you active and out in the community, offering levels for all triathletes. I’m very excited to be a part of this new racing distance in the United States. I’m really looking forward to the TriStar challenge! says Todd Olson, owner of Urban TRI in Minneapolis.

'Macca' is one of the most charismatic athletes with more fans around the world (over 30,000 and 14,000 followers on Facebook on Twitter). In 2010 he participated in TriStar111 Worms, Monaco and Estonia, and in 2011, Macca raced in TriStar111 Mallorca and TriStar111 Nevis, where he won. He has confirmed he will compete in many of the TriStar tests that will organize all over the world including Madrid on July 3 and ten destinations in total. "TriStar is overcoming the barriers of long distance sports setting new, very interesting and unique challenges. I am committed to them because they continue to present spectacular events that always take into account the needs of athletes. TriStar organizes the races as I prepare for my competitions. "The Australian was not only chosen “Sports Personality of the Year” in Australia when he became an Olympic champion in triathlon, he was also named “Best International Triathlete” in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2007. USA Triathlon Magazine awarded Macca “Triathlete of the Decade”in 2010.

The TriStar label is owned by Star Production SARL, a Monaco based company specializing in organizing high quality sports events that are focused on fun, social responsibility and environmental protection. Minnesota (MN, USA) is the 10th destination offering a TriStar race after Lyon (FRA), Madrid (ESP), Mallorca (ESP), Monaco (MON), Nevis (SKN), Otepää (EST), Sardinia (ITA), Split (CRO), and Worms (GER). The TriStar Series has grown to 15 races in these 10 destinations in less than two years. TriStar has introduced new distances to the sport of triathlon (A/N: 111km and 222km), as well as a new Team Racing Concept (A/N: in Madrid). More Info: www.tristar111.com
